Impact Speaker Contest, one of the side events of the pan-Baltic sustainability festival Impact Day 2023, has opened its applications. The contest is seeking for inspiring speakers who aspire to advocate for a better tomorrow.

This year’s theme can be summed up with the question “Are we doing enough?”. “Despite having made progress in disseminating knowledge and implementing sustainable practices, the significance of the environmental and social challenges we confront necessitates a more active and cohesive effort,” explained the organizer of Impact Speaker Contest 2023, psychologist (PhD) and Partner of Miltton New Nordics Eva-Maria Kangro. “The more engagingly we spread our messages, the more substantial impact we can achieve. With the Impact Speaker Contest, we offer a platform for this purpose.”

To be eligible to compete, contestants must create an engaging 5-minute speech in English and submit it in video format. In order to apply, prior public speaking experience is not required. “Anyone with a desire to inspire through their speech are warmly welcomed to submit an application, whether they are an executive leaders, entrepreneurs, high school graduates, industry specialists or passionate activists,” said Kangro.

The pioneer of visual thinking and the winner of last year’s contest Kati Orav said that she participated in the competition because it provided an excellent opportunity to refine her message and test her speaking skills. “Participating gave me stage confidence, skills, and self-assurance to advance toward my dream. The best way to challenge yourself and ensure your voice is heard is to step out of your comfort zone,” Orav added.

Outstanding speakers will also be awarded. The most compelling speaker will receive a prize fund of at least €1,500 along with the personal mentoring sessions. In addition, they will have the opportunity to perform their speech on the main stage of Impact Day 2023. One of the finalists will also receive a special prize from the President Kaljulaid Foundation.

The application period closes on September 3rd, and the semifinals will take place virtually throughout September. The winner will take the stage on October 6th.

Impact Day is the largest sustainability festival in the Baltics, which takes place on October 5-6 in Tallinn. With an estimated 2000+ participants and 3 stages full of inspiring content, more than 150 speakers are expected to take the stage during the festival. The Impact Speaker Contest is organized by Miltton New Nordics in cooperation with SpeakSmart and powered by the President Kaljulaid Foundation. Applications are open until September 3 on the contest’s official landing page
