What a journey we had at Põhjala Factory, our home for three long years. Our team spent over 20 days there while preparing for the events, while our technical producer, Kätlyn, practically lived there during the festival periods – she has spent over 90 days there since 2022. But let’s take a trip down memory lane.
How did it all start?
We had a vision – a huge one – to organize something truly impactful. As it turned out, Põhjala had a similar mindset. They too prioritized impactful activities, and we found much common ground. We were drawn to their vibrant community in a rapidly evolving district. Thus, Impact Day was born. Credit where credit’s due – Põhjala’s team came up with the festival’s name.
Our very first Bootcamp with co-organizers at Põhjala in 2022.
In our & participants’ hearts
From the beginning, Põhjala welcomed us warmly. Their support was a constant presence throughout the years.
“They are incredibly creative and cooperative individuals who genuinely want to create a positive impact. Põhjala’s people embraced our bold ideas, and we helped each other grow. They are more than partners to me now; I consider them friends,” our producer Kätlyn shared.
The factory exuded a unique, welcoming community vibe that aligned perfectly with our aim to present ourselves as a festival, not just a conference. Simply being there added a touch of magic to our event.
Our team will always remember those October weeks when the old rubber boot factory was transformed into a festival in no time.
We’ll miss the bakery goods and coffee from nearby, always ready to fuel our preparations.
Those were special days that have secured a place in our hearts.
By the way, our 2024 participants had this to share about the event which fits here perfectly:
- “Loved the unique setting of the old factory.”
- “Great venue; easy to reach by tram.”
- “Impressive location with lots of lovely details.”
Creative freedom
We also engaged local ‘residents’ from the Factory who became part of the festival, helping with workshops, for instance. In addition, one standout aspect of Põhjala is the opportunity it provides for some creative liberty. An old, empty rubber boot factory offers immense room for imagination. Due to that, every year we were able to create a completely different layout, which basically made it feel like the festival was in a new place every year.
To Liis, Steveli, Teet, Veiko, Hedi, Mihkel, and everyone else who journeyed with us – thank you, truly.
What’s next?
Though our time at Põhjala Factory has come to an end, we can now also announce that Impact Day 2025 is set for October 9-10 at Kultuurikatel (Tallinn Creative Hub), which, as the name already suggests, is also full of creative possibilities.
