After an inspiring day at Impact Day, we recommend relaxing at the Estonian Defence Forces Orchestra’s Autumn Concert.
Every autumn, the Estonian Defence Forces Orchestra presents a grand concert to showcase top-level wind music under the baton of renowned conductors. This year’s Autumn Concert brings music from across the sea – first from our neighboring Kingdom of Sweden, and then from across the Atlantic, the United States of America.
The first half of the evening features a representative selection of orchestral works and marches by Swedish composers. Guest conductor Leif Karlsson, Emeritus Music Inspector of the Swedish Armed Forces, will take the podium. Karlsson is an internationally recognized conductor who has collaborated with numerous Scandinavian orchestras and premiered more than 250 compositions. In March, he conducted the Lithuanian Armed Forces Orchestra’s Independence Day concert, and on November 1, he will appear in Riga with the Latvian National Guard Zemessardze Orchestra.
The Autumn Concert of the Defence Forces Orchestra is a rare opportunity to hear beloved Swedish orchestral works conducted by a Swedish maestro.
The second half of the evening celebrates the anniversary of one of America’s most famous composers, George Gershwin, and his opera Porgy and Bess. This groundbreaking work, which blends classical music with blues and jazz rhythms, premiered 90 years ago on September 30 in Boston. Accompanied by the Defence Forces Orchestra, some of the opera’s most beautiful arias will be performed by the charismatic jazz-rooted singer Susanna Aleksandra and Bert Pringi, a long-standing star of musical theatre. The Estonian Defence Forces Orchestra will be conducted by Teet Raik.
